Dancing in the KDH (aka 104 West!)

November 6, 2006

The Kosher Dining Hall, is situated right next to the CJL, and is directly attached to the CJL complex.  It was built about 20 years ago, and was recently taken over by Cornell Dining.

Whatever the historical case may be, there is obviously something interesting in the food, the drink or the air.  During dinner, the girls decided to put on a little performance.

NOTE (From left to right:) Elysia, Rachel, Meredith, Erica.

After being somewhat emotionally scarred for life, I snapped a picture of them doing the Macarena (with the song playing on their iPods in perfect synchronization).

Halloween — CJL style

November 3, 2006

So, this past week was Halloween, a nice day where everyone dresses up in whatever costume they feel like.  At the CJL we had a wonderfully successful (and scandalous) BBQ.  With costumes abound, we had a nun, a astronaut and, of course, a pirate (that wasn’t Elie).

In keeping with the spirit of season, Cornell places an orange tint on the clock faces of the clock tower.  At night, it’s magnificent, an orange bulb beneath the towering pillars.

First Day — Introduction

November 2, 2006

So, for the first day, I figured I have to tell you what this blog is all about.  Well, the Center for Jewish living is a student run residence house, cared for and run by observant Cornell Jewish students.  This blog will hopefully become a catalogue to the wonderful happenings and goings on here, at what we like to call: “the house”.

Course Enroll

As is traditional, the twice yearly ritual of waking up early for a 6:30 AM course signup for next semester, takes place tomorrow for those of use who are juniors.  Why is it that the everyone at Cornell, no matter if their classes are liable to become full, or whether their classes will never fill up, feel the need to wake up so early?  Why is it that we feel a need to listen to what the culture around us dictates?  Do we wake up early just because of the tradition?  Has it been conditioned into us?

Well, it looks like many residents will delight in this ritual … and I might just be one of them … one of the crowd.
